Currently, it looks more like finding ENOUGH items to go on my list is the hard part, not the other way around. Obviously, I don't need much, after all.
But I have to say, I exclude certain things from being counted (although I keep a kind of inventory of what would go with me into my tiny house on wheels), namely: books (I don't have many, anyway, and when the time comes, I'll get rid of some of them), things that are purely work-related (ParaNoire fabrics, envelopes & wrapping paper, folders & paperwork etc. I do count my sewing machines & tools as personal items on my 100 thing list, though, because I also use them for myself), tools (hammer, screwdriver etc), kitchen things (pots, pans, silverware, dishes), university-related stuff.
Also, I do count some collections of things as one list item, like my laptop, power supply & sleeve. Or mp3-player & headphones. Oh and my button collection (after I downsized it from 35 kg to fit in my scavenger steampunk drawers, which will happen in early 2012) will count as one. But it will be housed in a piece of furniture that I'll keep come hell or high water, so that should be fine.
Oh, furniture I'll keep also gets numbered. So, why am I still at only 55 items?! I'm merely adding 1 or 2 things a day to my list. At most. But in a way, I'm very happy about that.

Again, I somehow missed your 100 things post a while ago so the comment didn't fit any more ;)
AntwortenLöschenI happen to have been writing a "100 things" list over the past few days but I almost reached a 100 already and I don't have a single item of clothing on it yet. It might have something to do with the way I counted though. One bed I am able to sleep in = 5 things: Duvet, Pillow, Sheet, Pillow cover, duvet cover. And that is only one set of sheets. Realistically, I should have two. It does after all need washing sometimes.
Which way do you count things like that?
Hi :)
AntwortenLöschenI count things, that wouldn't be functional without each other as one thing, for example my laptop, the power cord and a protective cover. In your case, I'd probably count 1 set of covers & sheet as one thing, and probably a mattres, pillow & duvet as one thing. Other examples: I count certain sets of things that I really need more than one of as one thing, a "sock set" (with a limited number of socks in it, though) as one thing, panties, bras for example. But hen I look at this set, I try to find a number of things in the set that really represents what I need (so not 50 pairs of socks, but maybe... 10 + 2 really warm handknit pairs).
The great thing is, that you make the rules yourself. And while you find the rules, you already think about what would make sense and what you really need :)
I hope this helps!
I will have to come up with something like that because currently, I count every single thing separately (including single pens ;) ) and I'm almost at a hundred, having covered:
AntwortenLöschenbed and sheets
kitchen
bathroom
things for uni
things always in my handbag
I don't have any crafting items or clothes on there yet and I really restricted myself to the minimum. Either I make the list longer but that doesn't sound as good or I count differently, which feels like cheating too.
Not sure yet.
Well, why should it be cheating? You are the one to make the rules! It is better to make the rules before sorting, though, or else you might feel tempted to make the rules according to your needs, not the other way around :)
AntwortenLöschenYou're very brave to count in kitchen stuff too! I have made a decision rule for stuff like furniture or kitchen stuff. If it's generic and could be easily re-acquired i don't put it on the list, because the list is about "personal" items.
